When we went New York last NYE, we found a laser-tag arena off Times Square that had a teen-only party that night. He loved it. Anything like that would be good, or an under-age dance club, or something.

Oh, and he wants to see the fireworks too.

Sue: Thanks, but --- "Put him to sleep"? Could your parents have persuaded you to sleep through New Year's when you were a high school senior? Besides, this trip was his idea. He wants to see the fireworks.

Annette: Just so you know, they changed "Treasure Island" to be more adult. The pirate show now features sexy dancers, for a start. It's been like that all over Las Vegas for the last few years.

Brianne and Tiggermom: Thanks -- but what about OFF the Strip?

To TheVegasTourist: When your child is young, you DO have to take him with you everywhere. He's not old enough to stay by himself, and in our case there aren't grandparents or anyone else to leave him with for a few days.

In our case, our boy is 17 and a half. He's fine when we leave him home and spend a weekend in some sedate resort like Palm Springs, but Las Vegas has always fascinated him. He likes the arcades, go-cart tracks, and the Coke museum. He's got pictures of the Rat Pack and has done reports for school about demolished casinos.

More to the point, it was his request to spend New Year's Even in Vegas; he's always wanted to see the Strip fireworks. This may be our last NYE as a family for a while (he starts college next year), so there's no point to going without him.

What all-ages places will be open late on NYE? He won't even be allowed alone in GameWorks past 9!

Ironically, the perfect event is probably the party on Fremont Street, but the minimum age is 18.

Strict curfews on the strip and downtown will make it impossible for him to be out where the action is.
Better off at a friends house or at the movies.
Vegas isn't the family friendly town it once was

Suggestions for Kids in Vegas: Visit Red Rock to go hiking and see natural desert, visit Mt. Charleston for cooler air, trees, and great hiking. You can also take the kids to Circus Circus for free shows and lots of games on the midway. New York New York can be fun because it has a "Coney Island" with a roller coaster and games. The Sahara hotel has a popular roller coaster and a NASCAR cafe. Also check out the "beach" at Mandalay Bay and the Sharks are there to view too. The Venetian has some cool museums including the Guggenheim and Madame Tussuad's Wax Museum. Finally, there is the IMAX theater where they can see a movie in 3-D at...... and the best show with dinner is at the Excalibur where they see knights fight it out on horseback and everyone eats a dinner like Medieval times with their hands(you can ask for silverware)....dinner includes a cornish hen, potato, roll, veggie, and yummy pastry dessert.

New York Casino has a fun arcade area and rollar-coaster. I saw tone of kids running around up there. Also Circus Circus has the gaming area, don't play the games drunk though. The sprip show have tons of fireworks. Do the rollar coaster at the top of the Stratusphere hotel. They have some other rides too. If your kid dresses and acts real mature, I'm sure casinos won't give him a lot of beef, but no drinking of gambling. Go to the buffet at the Excalibur, its par.

I agree with Tiggermom. Within the last 2 years, Las Vegas has seemed to be making a conscious effort to become more adult oriented.
The only club that offered an "18 and over" night has been demolished and there isn't much for teenagers to do anymore.
The Strip is literally shoulder-to-shoulder on New Year's Eve and is insanely busy. You move with the crowd, or you are trampled to death. Depending on his age, I would seriously consider whether or not being on the Strip is the best idea for him on New Year's night.

hey shawn I'm sure there is lots for a teenager in vegas. When I was there they have changed it so much to family events, there has to be many things offered. Ask your hotel what they are aware of. Also Treasure Island is just for kids and young adults they will probably have something going on there for sure.
have a happy new year together.

I would contact your hotel's concierge. They generally have a list of city or Clark County events that might be of interest. There are also several teenager clubs in the area; I'm sure they have something going on.

Please do not take this as being rude, but it is a general question back to posters like this one.
Why Do you Need To bring Jr to Las vegas with you for an obvious adult night? Does he go with you to every place you visit??

No matter what your travel agent told you, this is NOT a family friendly town and always wonder why they do this??

Vegas is catering more to families now so you should have no problem finding thing for him to get involved with. But what happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas

THere is a 9pm curfew and the police will be looking for people under age, asking for ID, and taking you to a hold section if you go out. I suggest you ask to stay with a relative.
