The don't send "the poor", they send the constituents. The financial status of this group is irrelevant.
And they don't "fight the war" because it doesn't make sense. They'd get killed, and a war where the leader is constantly changing cannot be won (not that a certain war being waged right now can be won, but that's another matter)

To become a President of the United States, you must be 35.
There are many people 35 and over fighting wars, but no rookies. The mi minimum age to become a rookie (Boot) is about 29.
Besides many of our presidents have all ready served their time in the military.

Once, when the earth was ruled by saintly kings, the kings did indeed lead the war on the battlefield, for example, the Battle of Kurushetra which was fought between soldiers and warriors from all over the globe, 5,000 years ago in India. This was a righteous war fought on religious principles, not the dirty war promulgated by politicos half way around the world removed from the field of battle. Support the troops? I would, but how can I support the troops if I do not support the very basis on which that war was begun, i.e., lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction.

They don't many have fought. Eisenhower was a general as was Grant and certainly Washington. And it isn't always the poor who are"sent". It's a volunteer service now. We've had a lot of teachers go who are in the Reserve. All kinds of people care enough to serve. Who is your mentor? Congressman Rangel?Or John Kerry? He thinks military people are stupid and poor.

pat tillman(rest in peace) is a good example, he wasnt poor, he got out of his million plus contract, to serve his country.
most soldiers are business owners, doctors, lawyers.
only a small percentage join for education, cause you can get pell grants and aids to help thru college without joining the armed forces.
quit listening to KERRY, he married into money, the soldiers if you get the chance to talk to one serving or has served you could only get a glimpse of the pride and honor it takes to serve your country. just cause the service is small pay compared to civilian life, doesnt mean that they are poor themselves.
and just because war isnt always declared, doesnt mean that soldiers arent in harms way, no matter where they are.
to serve your country, IT'S NOT A DUTY, IT'S A GOD GIVEN HONOR TO SERVE beside men and women of such high caliber
of integrity.
IF YOU LIKE YOUR LIBERTIES, THANK A VET....

Because they grew up being waited on by the poor, driven around by the poor, had the poor do their laundry and polish their shoes. After a while, it just comes naturally to ask the poor to do your fighting for you as well.

Some of us have jobs. Run businesses. You know, pay the light bill.
The President is the Commander in Chief and his job of fighting the war is in the oversight and management.
