These are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I know there are others, but I borrow and loan books all the time, so I don't have a lot of the ones I have read here in my home.
1) Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight - Alexandra Fuller
2) The Last Girls - Lee Smith
3) Case Histories - Kate Atkinson
4) Ladder of Years - Anne Tyler
5) Bee Season - Myla Goldberg
6) The Hummingbird's Daugher - Luis Alberto Urrea
7) Turtle Moon - Alice Hoffman
8) The World Below - Sue Miller
9) The Silver Cloud Cafe - Alfredo Vea, Jr.
10) White Oleander - Janet Fitch
11) A Gesture Life - Chang-rae Lee
12) The Memory Keeper's Daughter - Kim Edwards
13) The Law of Similars - Chris Bohjalian
14) Bone House - Betsey Tobin
15) Anil's Ghost - Michael Ondaatje
16) Jesus Land: A Memoir - Julia Scheeres
17) Here on Earth - Alice Hoffman
18) Fortune's Rocks - Anita Shreve
19) Headlong - Michael Frayn
I certainly have favorites and least favorites among this list. My favorites were numbers 6, 9, 12, and 14, for many different reasons, but these are books that I will keep on my shelves. I didn't like 18, because I had a hard time with the whole relationship that was the center of the book, and I suspect that 19 was just too British for me to relate to.
But it was a good reading year, all in all!
