I'm conservative. I'll let you be anything you want. Watch out for the "liberals" though. They can be VERY intolerant.

'liberals', as a group, are normally socially liberal and economically conservative (that is, 'hands on' rather than laissez faire). Being tough on crime usually is seen as going against unspoken, common liberal tenets of humanness, emphasis on rehabilitation rather than punishment, etc., but there's nothing in liberal ideology that says that it must be this way. It's just that people who agree with liberal ideologies are prone to feel this way about prisoners. One issue won't exclude you from being able to call yourself a liberal :)
