im trying to install windows xp sp2?

Question

I'm trying to install it on a new hard drive but it says NTLDR is Missing and wont load. There is nothing on the harddrive- the wires are all in place and i cant figure out why it wont work- any ideas?

i cant log onto the internet or anything-- its a brand new hard drive- i changed the settings so it would boot from the cdrom but it still says NTLDR is Missing- i cant get any farther into my computer-- i even went to the extent of taking the entire motherboard apart and rebuilding it (yes i knew what i was doing)

NTLDR error could means many things but in your case, i think i might know what's wrong. If you want to install WinXP on a new HDD you must set is to be a active primary partition. You also need to disconnect the OLD drive with win xp to another channel because the bios will look for the OS on this hardrive. You need to format the new drive and set it to be the boot drive (master) and do not connect the old drive. After install winxp, you can reconnect the old drive to another channel but don't set it to active. The best thing for you to do is reformat your old drive so that the bios won't look for the bootfile in this drive.

I had a simular problem with the same error, it seems that microsoft netFramework 1.1 and netFramework 1.1 (hotfix) had to be installed. Go to Microsoft downloads and have them do a system check to see what you might be missing.

your xp disk cant be read.the disk could be scratched.please try using a different win xp disk.it will work.
