I've had this happen to me. I could never find anything to take it out though. I did try nail polish remover but my carpet was so sensitive that it bleached part of it. So I had to take an Exacto-knife and slowly cut away the nail polish. It left a little dent in the carpet but nothing too entirely noticeable. Atleast the fire red engine color was gone!

Buy non acetone fragrance and color free nail polish removal. Dip a white wash cloth or towel (not a paper towel) in the nail polish remover. Test a hidden part of the carpet (like in the back of a closet) by blotting the towel on the carpet. Let it dry completely. If color transfers to the cloth or the fabric appears to "melt" don't use the nail polish remover on the carpet. If it does not, then it is safe to use the nail polish remover to remove the nail polish. Apply nail polish remover to the white cloth, and blot over the stained area (do not rub). Keep blotting until the stain is gone.
Another method is to mix one teaspoon of dish washing liquid with 1 quart of warm water (this is safe on all kinds of carpets). Apply the solution to the stain and allow it to soak in over night, then blot the solution off with a white cloth dipped in warm water.
Another method is to mix 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide (this may cause the color to fade on the carpet, test it in the closet first). Cover the stain with the solution, and put plastic wrap over it. Put a stack of heavy books (dictionary, encyclopedia, etc) on top of the plastic wrap. Let sit over night. Rinse with warm water on a white cloth in the morning.
10 Seconds Shoe Cleaner can also remove nail polish from carpet without fading carpet. (Won't fade most carpet, but always test a spot in the closet first)
Simple Green straight out of the bottle (not diluted) sitting 5-10 on a nail polish stain can remove it (be sure to test a spot in the closet to see if the carpet will fade first). Just blot it with a white cloth dipped in warm water.
Some people have had luck with Oxi Clean removing nail polish from carpet (again, test a spot to make sure it doesn't fade your carpet). Use it full strength right out of the bucket.
Shaving cream, the foamy kind will remove nail polish from some kinds of carpet. Spray it on thick, let it sit 5 minutes, and blot it up with a white wash cloth dipped in warm water.
If you are worried about the color of your carpet fading, dump extremely hot water on the stain, and rub it hard with an S.O.S. pad.
