It doesn't depend on gender it depends on repore. They may like one female teacher better than another but they may like you more than all of them. It depends on how you interact with them. Personal story......In fifth grade I had a crush on a boy named Michael......one day i started singin that song from Annie...Tomorrow,Tomorrow, I'll Love You Tomorrow.....One boy, (jimmy) and another boy (hunter) told our teacher, (Mrs.Comley) that I said the F-Word. SHE PADDLED ME AND I NEVER SAID THAT WORD!!! My point is.....I hate her for humiliating me in front of evrybody over something I didn't do. This was sixteen years ago and I am so passionate about it because I know I did nothing wrong. I will never forget it and I want you to know that your students aren't part of your life for one year.....in situations like this your a part of theirs forever. Children don't look at it as man verses woman. They need to know that no matter who you are they can trust you and believe in you and count on you to do the right thing. In my situation the teacher saw nothing of what went on and had no right to enforce punishment on that level because she had nothing to base it on except the word of two little boys who were affraid to admit that I didn't say it so they wouldn't be caught in a lie. I only gave so much detail because this was 16 years ago and I would have let ig go if I had done something wrong. Focus on your kids. Know them and earn the right to be somebody they look up to and you will have nothing to worry about.

I think that young children prefer female teachers because they are more like their mothers. Mothers are still the main influence and do the majority of the nurturing of kindergarten aged children. I have 2 kids and they always did better with females, in fact, our school system has only female teachers ... no males at all! I don't know if that's deliberate or just the luck of the draw!

This is one of those hypocritical issues. They are crying for men to teach primary and elementary schools but they still prefer to see women in K and pre K. The reasoning is that women are more nurturing and mother like and less stressful for the kids. There is also a concern about males escorting little girls to the bathrooms etc and kindergarteners do have accidents. There is a strick no touching policy in many schools. My brother teachers in an elementary school and he said the hardest thing for him to do is not hug a kid , especially a girl who is hurting over something.

I know this is going to sound funny but I am going to agree with everything the other poster said-about the no touching, nurturing etc...
But also at this age many little girls are afraid of or just not comfortable with men. I am glad to this point they have had all female teachers. Now that they are a little older I wouldnt mind them having a male teacher...but to this point it has been best for them!
