As times morals, and society change so do clothes, Economic downturns also have had a lot ot do with fashion. Clothing has evolved from the functional, (keeping warm and dry) to the social ( definition of class in society) to the artisitic (Clothes as an extension of ones self and ideas). Clothing has become lighter weight with the production of newer fabric blends and more abundant due to the cheaper production. Where has 100 years ago a man might own one suit and a few pairs of pants and shirts and a pair of shoes, now a man probably owns several suits, numerous shirts, ties, slacks, jeans, sweaters, sweats, etc. Women used to own a good sunday dress and several house dresses. Possibly two pairs of shoes. Closets didnt even have bars, they had hooks. or you had a free standing small wardrobe.
