You know men, it's all about territory. Your stepfather wants to prove he has control over his domicile....holidays always bring out the worst in relatives, I think it has something to do with the high emotional state, high stress level, additional expenditures...it's perfectly normal or at least "standard" behavior.

This is so silly.people who hold grudges are very miserable people, and they are only hurting themselves.you need to talk with your mother about this, she should at least try to stand up to her husband on your behalf .you can,t go through your life staying away from your moms house just because your step dad has a chip on his shoulder.you did not say how long he has been your step father,if its been a very long time and you have a good relationship with him you could talk to him yourself. If your Mom has only been married to your step father for a short time then she needs to straighten him out ,and let him know that its not fair to her children and refuse to let him do this to the family.

Sounds as though your step father is a miserable human being and will remain so until he dies. Why doesn't your husband apologize even if it was not his fault. And in doing so save Christmas Eve for the entire family. God bless****

Depends on what the "trivial"
matter was . If husband threatened step-dad or caused him harm , then I can see wanting to protect one's self from further harrassment / and /or abuse - IF , it truly was trivial , then step-dad is being petty . It shouldn't stop you and your mother from being together for Christmas ; but your first duty is to your husband .

People are petty at other times, why expect them to be reasonable at christmas.
