I personally love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Check them out, especially their previous album. I don't know whether you consider that metal or not — although, it's more heavy/trashy than both Nightwish and Evanescence, in my opinion.
Directly relating to Nightwish (in terms of genre): Theatre of Tragedy. A Norwegian band, dual vocalists, male & female. Maybe something you'd check out?

To get as close as possible to Nightwish and Evanessence, try Within Temptation, or Lacuna Coil, Four Corners.....

Arch Enemy. They are very metal. The singer is very hot, plus she has a cool voice. Go to Yahoo music and watch their video for "Ravenous". She's an evil looking porn star chick with a death metal voice...lol.

If you want a true metal band, try Vixen. They're from the 80's and they are definitely metal.

Dan the man pretty much said them all, so if want something different even though all the bands he mention are killer, Therion, many female vocals. I recommend.
