Whenever I turn my laptop on it freezes up at the blue windows screen. That's the screen with the windows xp logo and the blue background. It does not get as far as the user account's screen. I've tried resetting it but that did not work. What might seem to be the problem?

start in safe mode by pressing F8 right before it goes to the black "starting windows" screen. Once you're in go to start-> run -> type "msconfig" -> click ok. When msconfig comes up select diagnostic startup click ok and reboot. If it loads then it was a program automatically starting that was causing it. Click start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore and restore it back to a day you didnt have the problem.

Have you installed any programs before your last shutdown period? Sounds like you might have a conflict problem.

Have you tried to do a restore? If not you might have to go into the advance options of the restore and do a destructive restore. Problem is you lose all data with that.

if there are any cds in your cd-drives eject it and take them, so your computer should not have any cd in its cd-drives when you turn it on. if this don't work then i don't know what's wrong, try re-installing windows!
