well its been reffered to as dual screen the most, but nintendo itself doesnt use any other name then DS

Officially, Nintendo have said that the DS has no meaning.

For developers, it means developer's system because it's supposed to give developers new tools to use to make new innovative games.

For fans, it means dual screen because that's what the DS has, two screens.
