I live in an area where Cingular is the only option for cell phone, but I really want a Sidekick 3. If I buy an unlocked Sidekick 3 and put my Cingular sim card in it, will it work in my area?

An unlocked phone is one that the carrier (T-Mobile) imposed subsidy lock has been removed. That being said in the sidekick 3 works on the 850, 1800 & 1900 frequencies so you should encounter little challenge with reception. WARNING the setting on the sidekick are set to the T-Mobile text, data, and interent gateway setting and you may have a difficult time getting the Cingular setting downloaded to your phone. You can try www.howardforums.com as well as trying to download them directly from the cingular site.

Cell phones are locked to and use a SIM provided by the service provider. So unless you get the unlock, you can't change SIMs in your phone.

Talk to the Cingular folks and ask them how to go about doing it.
