After going through 3 hamsters I found out from the last vet, that it's common for hamsters to get a tumour once they pass the average life span of 2 years. If your hamster is over that age not much a vet would do for it. I say as long as the hamster is acting normally nothing to worry about, If it's a young hamster might be worth getting it checked out.

Vets are usually wonderful with free advice when you call them about your pets.

If he has hair loss, and/or a lump, it could be a tumor or just an absess or infection.

Going to a vet goes with the territory of owning a hamster.

But if you can't make it for any reason, and his situation does not improve, and it seems like he is headed for hamster heaven, just keep him as comfortable as you can.

Don't disturb him to much. Gently talk to him to let him know you are there.

Give him small amounts of food and water, keeping him comfortable.

It's a rodent. Seriously, who cares? Do you know that the rodent didnt have a choice about getting this far in life? You probably feed and care for the rat, and for that you should feel great about that. The truth is, it's a rat, a pretty rat, but no less a rat. I'm sorry, but I am terrified of rodents.
