I need to built a 6-foot tall chess rook. It has to be light. What material can I use so that I can cut and clue/solder/nail put together so that it will be tall and light? Please EXPLAIN your response, material name, where to buy, how to clue pieces together. Thanks so much.

I would go with styrofoam from a shipping store or somewhere like that. It would glue just fine and be very light

Chicken wire for the frame and paper mache for the covering. That is made with news paper strips and watered down Elmer's glue. Soak the strips in the clue solution and apply over the wire after its dry 2 or 3 days paint it

More info would help me answer this. What is this for? How much are you willing to spend? Why the limitations on what can be used? As of right now I can only suggest expensive methods such as fiberglass, make a plastic cast using a vaccume board etc..

Outdoors: Styrofoam

Try using chicken wire to make the general form. Then glue on fabric over it. You can then attach whatever you want with cable ties or wires. I don't know how durable it would be though.

They use large blocks of styrofoam to carve the statues used in movies now so you should be able to do the same.
