My dads surprise birthday party is on New Year's and I'm not sure which dress I should wear! It's formal, so either one should work...I'm just torn.
The first one hits about mid-calf and I only have one picture that shows a lot of it but not the whole length. I'd wear black strappy pumps.

The second has a crystal broch in the center and the fabric gathers at that point in a "marilyn" style. I'd wear silver peep heels.

I would recommend the first one (not black). My reason is that the black dress, though it is nice, is somewhat "take to a dance." The first dress has a sense of formality but also warmth. Also, your skintone is lovely, and the dress accentuate it. Good taste =)

i love the first one....the lace and the colors...it's soo nice and perfect!!....i like this one better because u described the party as formal and a bday party on New Year's and the dress is the perfect combonation!! :) It just gives off that vibe of "Happy Birthday Dad!" and "I'm ready to have fun!!" You look extremely gorgeous in both dresses, but that one especially!!!

go with the black and white one. The all black one is a little revealing for a formal setting.

I like the second one better. It's pretty and less revealing. Either way, where the one that you will feel more comfortable in, and that you think will fit the occation better. Maybe you could casually ask your dad which one he likes better.
