Does the wood surface have any finish on it such as varnish or stain?
I got some perm. black marker on my dark oak dining table and I used a very FINE steel wool precisely on the marker only....VERY trickey, then I polished the spot on table with that dark furniture oil. Looks good..... My table does have a finish so you have to rub on it lightly and ONLY until it disappears. It is difficult if the line from the marker is thin....perhaps wrap a piece of FINE steel wool onto a flat head screwdriver so not to hit the other area of the table/finish.

Not without damaging the wood. What you need to do is to use sandpaper to remove the layer of wood on the surface that has been permanently markered. Then, once it is gone, repair the wood finish with whatever you surfaced it with. If it is bare wood, this is not a problem. If it's not, you need to match whatever is on the surface, polyuerethane, varnish, paint, whatever. You may have to redo the entire surface to get it to look right.

I agree with Sensible. Hair spray is wonderful for removing the ink from magic markers, etc. Just be careful and do a small area at a time so as not to dissolve the underlying finish.

I've not tried it on a wood surface, but hairspray works pretty well on most surfaces (including clothing).
