Good question. Wish I knew the answer. As the first responder mentioned there may be a slow down in the economy next year. If there is, I do not agree with his conclusions of the best investmetns. If there is a slow down and unemployment rises, then interest rates will be cut. I think he is correct that the value of the dollar may suffer. But that will not necessarily mean that the value of gold will increase. It has already increased considerably and further increases are greatly discounted as a result. A better parking place in my oppinion would be investments in a fund investing in foreign government debt which will rise as the dollar falls plus pay interest of about 5% also. GIM is such a fund. It certainly will not however be the best investment for 2007 but it will guard against the falling dollar.

Another area that merits attention is energy stocks. They continue to represent good value in an uncertain world and they have recaptured much of the interest they enjoyed when oil was at $80 a barrel now that it is only $62 a barrel. A recession however might cause the price of oil to drop some as uncertainty in the future sets in.

If there really is a recession next year, accumulating a nice cash position would be a good move because recessions normally bring corresponding drops in the values of equities, which one should then have the resources to take advantage of.

This is just my opinion, but I believe it will be precious metals, particularly gold and silver.

Why? We will likely enter a recession next year, making most financial assets a bad bet. Also the dollar will remain under tremendous pressure to decline, which always helps the price of the metals. So there you are.

Atheros (ATHR) looks promising.

Myriad genetics MYGN has an alzheimers drug in the pipeline. 1 in 10 americans over 55 get alzheimers, and 50% over 85 get it.

China is another promising area.
