Leslie,

Technically you can do this by setting one machine up with Internet Connection which is built into Windows XP. However you would need to connect the two machine with a ccrossover ethernet cable. I highly suggest you look into switching from AOL to DSL or Cable which can sometimes be found for about the same price. I pay $25 for my cable connection which is technically about 200X faster than dialup. Then spend $30 and buy a linksys or comparable wireless router with 802.11g or newer compatibilty. Now you can surf from anywhere in your house. If cable is not available your phone company probably offers a midrange DSL option for a similar price but you still need the router. Very easy to setup these days.

visit http://www.dslreports.com and you can check to see what offers are available for your address. Alternative to that would be a wireless card from one of the cell phone providers that would allow you to use either laptop anywhere in the US but it costs about $50-60 and is a bit slower than cable.

email to my user ID @ Yahoo if you want more help.

Good luck.

You can get a telephone splitter, at radio shack, or walmarts. Plug one end of the splitter, into your phone jack, then "with the splitter" you will have two plugs on the other end. Plug one into one computer, and the other end, into your second computer. You might need to buy some extra telephone wire, but very inexpensive. Good Luck..

I don't think you can network a dial up connection.
