5: I think it is more societally acceptable for a woman to be "stay at home" than a man. Also, I think that sometimes it is easier for men to find better paying unskilled labor than women, which lends itself to a man working outside the home instead of a woman in a situation where the family can't afford childcare. I think in more educated households, women and men hold equal responsibility to support themselves and their children.

10. This doesn't mean that women are second class citizens, the responsibility of home making and raising kids is not for sissies. She is just as important as the man but in a different position. It is strange to me that in past years the men made the living and the wife stayed at home. Now, it seems that it takes both man and wife to make a living. I suppose it is because of the demand for more and better material things.

You know, that may be a useful idea, but it tends to have the unfortunate side effect of the woman being relegated to second-class citizenship. The hard-working man treats his house frau like a dependent instead of a partner.

I would give it a 0, because it shouldn't be automatic that the man is the main supporter.

I think it depends on how the couple feels. My husband is the sole provider in our family and he doesnt want me to work. We've been married for 4 years, and in that time, I havent had a job outside the home (we have 2 kids and that is a full time job by itself). I'm okay with being a stay at home mother (and wife) but I am willing to go to work also if our situation ever changes. So, I think it truely depends on how you and your partner feel about the matter.

I don't think the man has to, but i believe that he should be able to support his family with his income. I say this because the woman of the household becomes pregnant, or decides that she would like to stay home with the kids he should be able to support everyone. I am not saying that guys don't want to be a stay at home dads, but he must at least be able to support his family, or be able to find away to do so.

It all depends on the family, and the earning capabilities of the individuals. It depends on whether or not they plan on having children, and who will be the primary caregivers. A number from 0 to 10 can't be given because it is dependent on each individual family.

I think that the burden of providing for a family should be spread equally between both partners. If one chooses to work and one would rather stay home, that's fine, but it shouldn't automatically be the female partner who gets to stay home.
