Cat and Mouse by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Softly we tremble tonight,
picture perfect fading smiles are all that's left in sight,
I said I'd never leave you'll never change
I'm not satisfied with where I'm at in life.

Am I supposed to be happy?
With all I ever wanted, it comes with a price.
Am I supposed to be happy?
With all I ever wanted, it comes with a price.
You said, you said that you would die for me...

We made plans to grow old,
believe me there was truth in all those stories that I told.
Lost in a simple game cat and mouse are we the same people as before this came to light?

Am I supposed to be happy?
with all I ever wanted, it comes with a price.
Am I supposed to be happy?
with all I ever wanted, it comes with a price.
You said, you said that you would die for me...

You must live for me too'...
For me too...yeah, yeah...
You said that you would die for me...

Am I supposed to be happy?
with all I ever wanted, it comes with a price.
Am I supposed to be happy?
with all I ever wanted, it comes with a price
You said, you said that you would die for me...

Many sad songs come to mind but the one that truly takes the cake for me features the late great Jim Morrison on vocals ...

The End - The Doors

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
Ill never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...strangers hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah

Theres danger on the edge of town
Ride the kings highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby

Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake...hes old, and his skin is cold

The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and well do the rest

The blue bus is callin us
The blue bus is callin us
Driver, where you taken us

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother...i want to...**** you

Cmon baby, take a chance with us
Cmon baby, take a chance with us
Cmon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin a blue rock
Cmon, yeah

Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

It hurts to set you free
But youll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die

This is the end

A close second could be "The Killing of Georgie" by Rod Stewart ...

(Part I and II)
(Rod Stewart)

In these days of changing ways
so called liberated days
a story comes to mind of a friend of mine

Georgie boy was gay I guess
nothin' more or nothin' less
the kindest guy I ever knew

His mother's tears fell in vain
the afternoon George tried to explain
that he needed love like all the rest

Pa said there must be a mistake
how can my son not be straight
after all I've said and done for him

Leavin' home on a Greyhound bus
cast out by the ones he loves
A victim of these gay days it seems

Georgie went to New York town
where he quickly settled down
and soon became the toast of the great white way

Accepted by Manhattan's elite
in all the places that were chic
No party was complete without George

Along the boulevards he'd cruise
and all the old queens blew a fuse
Everybody loved Georgie boy

The last time I saw George alive
was in the summer of seventy-five
he said he was in love I said I'm pleased

George attended the opening night
of another Broadway hype
but split before the final curtain fell

Deciding to take a short cut home
arm in arm they meant no wrong
A gentle breeze blew down Fifth Avenue

Out of a darkened side street came
a New Jersey gang with just one aim
to roll some innocent passer-by
There ensued a fearful fight
screams rang out in the night
Georgie's head hit a sidewalk cornerstone

A leather kid, a switchblade knife
He did not intend to take his life
He just pushed his luck a little too far that night

The sight of blood dispersed the gang
A crowd gathered, the police came
An ambulance screamed to a halt on Fifty-third and Third

Georgie's life ended there
but I ask who really cares
George once said to me and I quote

He said "Never wait or hesitate
Get in kid, before it's too late
You may never get another chance
'Cos youth a mask but it don't last
live it long and live it fast"
Georgie was a friend of mine

Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay, don't go away
Georgie, Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh Georgie stay

Nik Kershaw - "So Quiet"

I thought I heard a sigh as you waved the world goodbye
While the snow lies on meadows like a shroud
And it's so quiet, so quiet
and even the silence is too loud

So different yesterday when you laughed the night away
When you knew that all the time you were too proud

And it's so quiet, so quiet
and even the silence is too loud

So crusading, much too true
Not a cause that was too small for you
So romantic, too naive
And not a kind enough breath to breathe
So when I think of you, I think of violet and blue
And all the things that makes you stand out in a crowd

And it's so quiet, so quiet
and even the silence is too loud

Your pleasure and delight was a neverending fight
Just to find the silver lining in the clouds

And it's so quiet, so quiet
and even the silence is too loud
yes it's so quiet, so quiet
and even the silence is too loud

"The Titanic" (also known as "It Was Sad When That Great Ship Went Down" and "Titanic (Husbands and Wives)") is a folk song and children's song most known for being sung in the United States at summer camp. "The Titanic" is based on the sinking of the RMS Titanic which sank on April 15, 1912 after striking an iceberg. There are several regional variations on the song. According to Newman I. White's 1928 book American ***** Folk-Songs, "The Titanic" has been traced back to 1915 or 1916 in Hackleburg, Alabama. Other versions from around 1920 are documented in the Frank C. Brown Collection at Duke University in North Carolina. The earliest known recording, titled "When That Great Ship Went Down", is from August 1927 and recorded by William and Versey Smith in Chicago, Illinois.[1]

The song is sung in an upbeat tone despite its subject.[2] The song's chorus provides an example of the song's style.

Oh, they built the ship Titanic to sail the ocean blue,
And they thought they had a ship that the water would never leak through,
But the Lord's almighty hand knew that ship would never stand.
It was sad when the great ship went down.

Chorus
Oh, it was sad, so sad; it was sad, so sad;
It was sad when the great ship went down, to the bottom of the ...
Husbands and wives, little children lost their lives,
It was sad when that great ship went down.

Oh, they sailed away from England, and were almost to the shore,
When the rich refused to associate with the poor,
So they put them down below, where they were the first to go.
It was sad when the great ship went down.

The boat was full of din, and the sides about to burst,
When the captain shouted "Women and children first!"
Then the captain tried to wire, but the wireless was on fire.
It was sad when the great ship went down.

So they swung the lifeboats out o're the deep and raging sea,
And the band struck up with 'Nearer My God to Thee',
Little children wept and cried, as the waves swept, o're the side,
It was sad when the great ship went down.

You wanna cry?

Listen to "Teddy Bear" by Red Sovine. It's a country music song about a truck driver who hears the pleas of a little boy over the CB radio. Touched by what he hears the driver goes out of his way to visit the young man confined to a wheel chair. If you aren't touched by this story narated to music then you just don't have a heart. It's a bit dated and a bit hoaky but it will tug at the heart strings. You can listen to it at the link below.

Second Choice - "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks. About a childhood friend who dies. Sad song but awefully annoying too.
