No,they didn't invent them but when Santa was made popular by Clement Moore's poem 'The Night Before Christmas',the advertisers just latched onto a good thing.After catoonist Thomas Nast developed the illustration of what we commonly think of Santa looking like.Santa was off and running for good.The bunny was a fertility symbol, symbol of Spring.How he got to Easter ,I don't know.
Santa was in European mythology for hundreds of years and is based on a Greek Bishop Nicholas who used to give things to the poor.Good Ol' St. Nick.

hmm, while the big corporations would like you to believe this, i think it was really the invention of parents who wanted to spare their small children the graphic stories of the life and death of jesus, and make holidays entertaining for all to enjoy.

i also have to put greeting card companies into that category...why do we really need sweetest day and all the other stupid holidays out there where the stores are flooded with greeting cards

ABSOULUTELY NOT........christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ...but santa was made up so people forget the TRUE meaning of christmas....the birth of our saviour and father Jesus Christ....and the other holidays...i have no clue.
