You probably broke it or sprained it, but you didn't notice because it is the smallest part of your phalanges (Hands). You should cunsult your parents, or your coach.

If you're not going to go to the doctor....
First things first: if it hurts, stop straightening it out!!!
Go to the heath food store and buy some Arnica. Make sure it's Bioron (spelled something like that) in the ointment formula. Arnica helps with swelling, bruising, stiffness, etc. Spread it all over your finger and purple/swollen areas. Get a popsicle stick or two and wrap it with sports tape or an ace bandage. Icing helps too, don't use any heat.
But keep in mind that if it is broken or whatever and you don't go to the doctor, it will heal back all messed up, and thats not good.

It may be either a sprain/strain or a fracture. My advice would be to put an Ice-Pack on it (do NOT put ice directly onto the skin, always cover it with something first and do NOT have an ice pack on for over 10mins at a time) and to put your arm in an elevation sling. This will reduce the swelling. If it still hurts after a while, I would suspect a fracture and go to hospital!

Ice & a splint. if it doesn't look more beneficial quickly or if it begins to ruin very badly see a known practitioner... i recognize the ER in my city sucks, and a jammed finger isn't some thing they'd manage instantly away, so a known practitioner may be an more desirable thanks to get interest right away, till you're in blinding soreness, then i'd flow to the well being midsection. perchance take a motrin or some thing for the swelling.
