my great grandfather who was a high level exec (he was on the board of directors a a big one) told me that some corporations invented christmas /santa claus his little elves and the easter bunny in the 1800's/1900's to market and sell more of their products.

No, they did not invent the holidays....they just exploited them

No they didn't invent the holidays, but they should recieve high marks for their efforts in commercialization, and they will probably all receive a hefty Christmas bonus for their successes.

The holidays predate the corporations, but the latter have certainly done a good job of commercializing the former.
