Why do people insist on dumping their on personal opinions and tell someone not to do something that they have clearly decided they are going to do and just would like to know a simple question about it. The question is when it should be done not if it should be done. Keep your OPINIONS to yourself and just answer the question. They are usually circumsized before they go home from the hospital. Your doctor will come in and talk to you about it.

The best time to give your baby son the lifelong benefits of circumcision is between the 8th day and the end of the first month after he is born.

By the 8th day the baby is producing his own Vitamin K (which helps blood clotting) and so the (small) risk of excessive bleeding is eliminated. By this time he will also have bonded with his mother and be feeding well. Circumcision before the 8th day can sometimes disturb the bonding process or disrupt feeding.

It is always otherwise best to have the boy circumcised as early as possible. During the first few months the operation is absolutely minor and has little disturbing effect on the baby. Because he naturally lies in his crib all day he doesn't have to be restrained from doing things that might hurt the healing penis, as he would if crawling or walking.

Early circumcision provides good protection from the harmful effects of infant UTIs which can irreparably damage the young bladder and kidneys.

The time to have your baby boy circumcised is decided by you and your doctor. It seems easiest and best if it is done in hospital before you and the baby are discharged. It is not uncommon, however, for it to be done in your Paediatrician's office or on an outpatient basis in hospital - usually during the first two or three weeks of life. In the U.S. and Canada, many doctors frown on doing it during the period of 1 to 12 months of age. After the age of 1 year it is usually done under general anesthetic. Technically a circumcision can be done at any age but the difficulty in later circumcisions is the memory of the discomfort during healing and adjusting.
After-circumcision care varies with the technique used. Your doctor or a nurse will instruct you in care after your son is circumcised. Healing in an infant is usually complete in about a week. They heal fast!
Whenever a question like yours comes up someone pops up to say don't circumcise at all. Clearly you have chosen, and I am one who agrees with your choice - especially in light of recent growing evidence that circumcision can reduce the risks of UTI and HIV/AIDs. The AAP, in 1999, noted that there are benefits and risks to the procedure and while the benefits have a slight advantage, the decision is best left for parents rather than just doing it 'universally without the need for permission' (That's what they mean when they use the term 'routine')
Hope this helps and best wishes with your little one.

unless it is for religious reasons, there is really no reason to have a baby circumsized. This is something that doctors decided people should have done in the 1950s (probably to make more money). They tried to explain that it is done for health reasons -cleanliness- to decrease infections and VD but the truth is-- there is no real proof to that fact.
There was a similar trend in the 40s-60s- where women stopped breastfeeding because they thought formula was better for their babies!
read up on it and make an informative decision.
however, if you do decide to do it, your son will probably thank you if you have it done at birth. they say the procedure is very painful at any other age.

Yes right after giving birth. My son was circumsized less than 24 hours. It is sad, but it is less painful then when they are older. Also have them do it right before you breast feed so when he is done he will have the comfort from you and know he is safe.

Usually at one or two days of age unless you are Jewish. The Jewish circumsize their boys at like 8 days of age or something, think it's called a Brit Milah.

After birth, up ontill the time that they go home.
The longer they wait the more tramatic.and more problematic it is for them. For the people that say it is painful and there is nothing you can do for it. There is , there is a cream they put on to knumb the tip of the penis.

In the hospital they can help you take care of the wound (not pretty but heals within a week). Don't try and wipe off the whitish film that develops on the head of the penis. It is just healing.
