If someone brought a court case against you, do you had to have a solicitor to defend you? Can you just ignore it? (court hearing date has been set on next month, but I really don’t to pay the solicitor bill - £25,000 which is exactly all we have left). Ex wife (no children involved) does it anytime she wants – Even after paying her 5 years maintenance already. Help!

Don't ignore it. If you do, you may find an order being made against you in your absence. You need to put your side of things forward, even if you can't afford a solicitor. There is such a thing as matrimonial legal aid. It is not unheard of for the court to grant that on the spot where it is felt that a person needs to be legally represented. But whatever you do, turn up at court! Otherwise your ex-wife may find everything going in her favour!

do you live in london? don't you have the option to defend yourself? if it is an alimony/support issue can't you try showing you just can't afford it, show she is better off than you are? or, is there a legal right to support no matter the circumstances?
