Does anyone else have a major problem with talking on the phone? I can call my family and some close friends, but I really go out of my way to avoid calling calling in delivery and screen calls like it's my job. Is there a way to get over this?

I have found that I make fewer phone calls since I have been using email. As for answering the phone, I don't answer 1-800 numbers or anything that looks suspicious or might be a telemarketer. My feeling is that if the caller is legit and is serious, then he or she will leave a message when I don't answer. And guess what. Those callers never leave a message, and any time that I do pick up for those numbers, it is somebody soliciting for this or that. So, basically, I answer the calls I recognize and I will gladly return messages. But since email, I use the phone less than I used to, and I am quite happy without a cell service!

I'm the same way. Well for me its more cuz I can't hear well on the phone so I dont like even talking to docs or people about insurance or any of that stuff for fear of misunderstanding something important on the phone. So even though I'm 27 my mom makes my important calls like that for me. I'll call people back myself for job interviews if I know who was calling but mostly I avoid talking to anyone who isnt family or an extremely close friend who understands my hearing problem. I absolutely love chatting on the computer though so its not an anti-social thing.

Don't get over it. I can't stand talking on the phone and went so far as to change my number and not give the new one to most of the people I know. Phones are awkward for people who communicate with a lot of non-verbal cues (you always get the impression that the other person's not quite getting everything you're saying anyway).

With today's technology, you really don't need the phone for most things anyway. Use the net and avoid the phone. Do what makes you most comfortable.

Same thing happens to me... is really annoying to be on the phone that much... I can take a 5 minute phone call but if it really goes much further I start to get desperate lol,

I despise it.

For me, I hate how impersonal it is, and in general I just have trouble using them. Either I can't hear what they're saying, or they can't here what I'm saying.

I don't think it's really so bad to hate phones though, nor do I think there's really a 12-step to get over it. It's just a thing some people have.

I have the same problem! I don't know..I just don't like talking to random people, especially tech support people, unless I'm the only one around. It's like..I'll say something stupid and be embarassed. It's really weird. Unfortunetely, I don't know what to do x[
