I was making a base salary of 80,000.00 at GE with a lot of stress. I quit! I'm doing contract work now, I've never felt better in my life.

As long as with the low paying job you can still pay all your bills because there is nothing more stressful than not making ends meet, but if you;re comfortable but not a millionaire then I'd take the low paying no stress job

Of course the answer is to be somewhere in the middle but I'll contribute this...

You must ask yourself "Self, is having a low paying job stressful in itself?" How stressful? More stressfull than the high paying job is?

Also, "Self, does having a high pay reduce your stress at all?"

ah...

Everyone's answer is different but mine is this.

Get the high paying job. Don't get caught up in making your money make you more money. Take vacations. Spend money on your family. Give to charity. These will all help reduce the stress and make the high paying job seem more worth it.

Hmmm...that's a thinker. A high paying job with a lot of stress can cause medical problems, marital problems, etc. A low paying job with no stress is just that, but the stress of trying to make ends meet can cause the same problems as above. I wish I knew the answer, as my husband and I suffer from a bad mix of ok paying jobs, but we're struggling to make ends meet because of my cancer. Life isn't fair all of the time.

The problem with the low paying job is it might not exercise your full potential or make full use of your talents. If you work for a big chunk of your life, it's a good idea to stretch your potential. Low stress without fulfilling your potential can easily lead to stagnation, and stagnation leads to stress pretty easily. At least with the high paying job you might be fulfilling a portion of your potential... and hopefully it's not just a high paying job, but a high paying career.

Neither. Why do most people gravitate to the highest taxed income bracket?

Be in business for yourself - that's the only way. Be in control of your destiny.

Stress emanates from not having control.

That's a self-limiting question. Avoid those.

Maybe instead ask "how can I find challenging, enjoyable, fulfilling work that allows me to make enough money to meet my goals and reach my dreams?"
