ok heres the story...the problem...and hopefully one of you will give me the solution...

I was putting in another drive into my computer (\F). Before I did my computer was working PERFECTLY!...but then I wanted more drive space .

Once I was finished putting in the drives (don't worry...they were put in properly)... and I started the computer this is what happened.

It showed a s creen that demanded a boot disk or device. So the first try I put it in and it asked me what ways to start out windows. I chose best configuration, the next time normal, and the last time safe mode. Every single time it showed me a screen after saying this: One of your drives is corrupted r has a virus (and my drive was new so it must have had some kind of virus). you must restart yoyur computer. if you see this again you must run chkdsk for drive \F . How do I do that if I cant even start up windows?!?!?

Somebody PLEASE help me.

Well, the first thing I would try in your case is to remove the new drive and see if the problem goes away.

If you do, and the problem remains - complaints about a virus and so forth - then a trip to the repair shop might be your best bet if you are unfamiliar with recovery of this sort.

If your computer boots properly after removing the new drive, then what probably has happened is that the new drive you put in was recognized as the main drive and your computer tried to boot off of it. Sometimes supposedly new drives are actually used and come with a (sometimes broken) installation of windows on it.

If this is the case, I would carefully check to see how your setup is configured and ensure that the new drive is installed as a secondary drive and not the primary drive.

Once you have everything running, you would be well advised to go ahead and run a virus scanner just in case.

Holy Cow. You have quite a strange problem! alright if you recieved disks with your computer then you need to insert the one with the drivers information, this has a chkdsk program installed to bypass the MS-DOS in the computer so you dont have to use the command prompt to use the chkdsk. if you cant understand what to do or if you did not recieve the drivers cd (i didnt) call your computers manufacturer they will send you the cd's free and when you get them they will walk you through the steps. hope this helps brodster

You should check your primary disk to confirm that the jumpers are set to MASTER, and on the 2nd disk make sure that the jumpers are set to SLAVE. This is considering that your are using one IDE controller for both drives. Another reason you are getting this is that the 2nd drive is corrupt or damaged causing your PC to crash. This has happen to me in the past. I replaced the drive with another drive and PRESTO! it worked.

Good luck
Cheers!

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
