All you would need is a wireless router (that also has ethernet plugs). The cable modem would plug into the internet port of the wireless router, the desktop would plug directly into the wireless router and all of the laptops would use the wireless interface.

Alternatively, you can install a Wireless Card in your desktop machine and use Internet Connection Sharing, in this way your desktop becomes the wireless router. However, in this case note that your desktop has to be turned on in order for a wireless laptop to access the internet.

If the modem is a cable/DSL modem then plug the appropriate wire into the comuter and the ethernat cord into a wireless router. turn your PC on and wait for the cable/DSL modem lights to turn on, run the networks setp wizard on your PC. you need a wireless card or USB adapter for your laptop to be able to 'see' the wireless signals from your router. Run networks wizard on your laptop and then you should be set to start using the laptop wirelessly via the wireless signals coming form the router.
Repeat the networks wizard for each laptop and you can use the same card for each, but usin one laptop at a time, unless you buy other wireless cards.

best of luck mate

Well to hook up the desktop to the modem simply use an ethernet cable (the yellow or blue cord used for high speed internet) Now the wireless desktops are a totally different situation. If the modem has an antenna then your modem is wirelessly ready, if not then you have to buy a wireless modem like a netgear range max for example, then folow the instructions that the modem gives you. if your modem does have an antenna then call up tech support of your ISP (internet service provider) they will walk you through the steps
