Haha. This is a really great question, because I was thinking the same thing. So, here's the answer...
"The word "Happyness" in the title has been taken from the misspelling of "Fun Joy Happyness" on a mural children have painted on the Chinatown daycare center where Chris Gardner takes his son, Christopher. When Chris points out the mistake, Mrs. Chu replies that it is not important to the pre-schoolers how the word is spelled, only that they have happiness. This leads Chris to contemplate the inclusion of the concept of the individual's right to "pursuit of happiness" in the Declaration of Independence, and how to pursue a happier, more emotionally secure childhood for his son, than his own had been."
I guess it's part of the movie or something.

I am dyslexic so i use the spell check all the time , and sometimes choose the wrong spelling from the multi choice that is given, but the "kind" people on Y/A soon point it out to me .... so yes i do feel like an idiot never mind an nincompoop :)

It's just a gimmick to mark the title out!
I'm pissed off with the number of (US) people on this site asking ?? about "Santa ClausE", because of the earlier movie (and, I think, a sequel!).
The use of "Clause" was to relate to the legal contract the 'hero' signs b4 becoming the new "Santa Claus" - NO "e"!!!! That was the same idea as "The Pursuit of HappYness" - you're so familiar with the Dec of Ind that the different spelling stands out.

The spelling error in the title is intentional: it refers to an important scene in the movie. To tell would be a spoiler ;-)

I saw that I thought it was a misprint regardless I'm using the old school "Happiness".
