I never really thought of it until I was looking at a companies information and pay scale. The CEO makes more money than the President and is at a higher level. I thought a president was the highest level. I am confused.

It depends.
Each company is pretty much able to call their officers anything they want, and to organize those officers any way they want.
More confusing, they might hold multiple titles.
IN general, the CEO is the second in command behind the Chair of the Board, but the CEO calls 99% of the shots. Most major companies don't use the term "President" anymore, so there won't be a President and CEO in the same company (usually).

The CEO and President are basiclly the same thing, just a different title depending on what company you are working for.
The only thing high then a President of a company is the owner. Most football and basball teams have Presdients or General Managers..they are in charge of operations and day to day affairs, but they have have to answer to the owner of the team.

I'm not sure, but I believe the President of a company can fire the CEO.. I think that's what happened to Steve Jobs when he was making his company go all crazy with the Apple vs Mac stuff.. I could be wrong about their positions though..

The Cheif Executive Officer is usually at the top. It depends on the company structure and the pay / incentive package the executive agreed to. I remember one company where the CFO (Cheif Financial Officer) made more than twice the President because of financial incentives for performance in her contract.
