My son is 3 weeks old and is severely constipated. He has very hard stools when and if he can get it out. I tried karo syrup and water with my oldest son when he was a baby, but it didn't work too well. I am open to any suggestions that may help, but must also be safe for him.

Why precisely can no longer you solely breastfeed? How do you recognize which you do no longer produce adequate milk in case you have been supplementing (for sure) in simple terms approximately from start? It does take it slow for the provision to return in and grow to be ordinary. and how can it no longer artwork consisting of your time table to breastfeed? actually at 2 weeks placed up-partum you are able to no longer have something urgent which you would be able to desire to be doing. i could surely do each and every thing plausible to easily breastfeed, a minimum of for here couple of weeks. supply toddler a raffle to discover ways to nurse nicely, and get your furnish up. and you're specific that as long as he's solely breastfed, he won't be constipated. If, faster or later, you would be able to desire to return to artwork, or college, or for another reason won't be able to nurse on the instant on the breast for each feeding, then plan to pump as much as plausible. once you at the instant can't pump adequate for toddler, then small quantities of formulation given alongside with the breastmilk, shouldn't bring about significant constipation. (Esp. on the grounds that toddler would be various months previous by making use of then, and his digestive gadget slightly extra mature.) EDIT: 2 weeks (or much less) became a strategies too early to be giving up on breastfeeding. Does your scientific institution have a lactation representative? if so, call her. If no longer, attempt to locate an autonomous one. it is not too overdue to get toddler onto the breast. it relatively is going to take it slow and attempt now, yet will shop a ton of time and attempt later on. (the very incontrovertible fact that your toddler is obviously having a no longer ordinary time digesting formulation ought to offer you the inducement you would be able to desire to adhere with it.) If getting toddler onto the breast is easily impossible, then you certainly DO would desire to be pumping lots extra commonly. 3 hours/7-8 situations an afternoon is nowhere close to adequate. you would be able to desire to be pumping approximately as commonly as toddler could be nursing -- a pair of dozen situations an afternoon. The extra customary pumping will furnish extra milk now (a million.5 ozx 12 = 18 oz -- must be adequate for many newborns), and could stimulate and strengthen your furnish for later.
