I think the fact that anyone drives drunk is widely accepted anymore. You could more than likely stop every second person leaving a bar at closing time and arrest them for drunk driving. I suspect that many are upset about his comments because they have said the same thing at one time or another in their lives but those in the public eye, while given more honor than they sometimes deserve, are also held to a higher code of conduct and when they do the same thing as the rest of us, they are condemned while we simply excuse the man on the next bar stool for the same thing because, he or she has had too much to drink.

Good point. If it were back in the 80's and drunk driving was the politically incorrect thing to do as it was then, that would be all over the news. Since the war on drunk driving is not the hot topic that it once was, it was trumped by the war on religion, which is currently raging. Therefore, that is what the focus and hot button topic was for the media.

That fact that he's been drunk off and on for over 30 years means at some point he was driving drunk.
That is against the law and he should have his license removed.
We have become desensitized about drunk driving because it happens so often and nothing much ever happens.
The filthy racist remarks that he spouted was new to most people so it got a a lot of attention.
To me he was a jerk before the incident and he will always be a jerk.

No one cared that Gibson was drunk because being drunk or high is the norm in Hollywood. It would hypocritical for them to criticize him for drinking.
For the record, Gibson's anti-Semetic comments were directed against a Jewish traffic cop, not another driver.

Mel Gibson was one of the most well-respected filmmakers in Hollywood. I believe America decided to give him another chance because of his otherwise good lifestyle.

thanks!! DUI, it truly is against the law, a intense one it is taken gently.. speaking your innovations (no matter if he meant it or no longer) isn't against the law. and this is not any longer a huge deal! it has no longer some thing to do consisting of his videos or performing, although the media needs it to be a huge deal! which ought to advance a question as to why. and if he'd stated those comments about everybody else yet jews would they have made this manner of large fuss about it? i ask your self. as for being concerned, properly now i say you ought to, because it is going to result your and our lives, because now (attributable to the media, and Mel's stupid behaviour) you ought to pay interest on what you assert and picture and sense. look on the reactions of persons international, on your society and others, it is popping to a dig deal, you ought to care about WHY it is taking place. the recent hip note is now "Anti-Semitic" and also you'd be listening to it alot more desirable typically now from those who've no clue what it potential and could use it to label others no matter if it suits or no longer .. and easily so its sparkling this is not unique to anti-jewish.

I think that it is horribly sad but it's like we are "numb" to the fact that celebrities seem to play by a different rule book! I mean, everyday you turn on your tv and see another celebrity driving down the wrong side of the road sloshed or through someones lawn...etc. It's not a point of "caring", its that we have become accustomed to it.....

He should be treated just like anyone else who was driving drunk. Regardless of comments he made or didn't make - he's a person and people are racist and bias in their own respects whether they admit it or not. If some regular guy was drunk and got pulled over, then made racist comments do you think it would have made the news? - I think not.

well well well. movie stars. things are getting better for the law against them. but in LA a lot of cops get payoffs for giving "stars" a break....and this has to stop. i dont care who is who, there is only one person we answer to "Jesus" and all this money and scape goats is the devil's work. All we can do is try to make cases in Congress to have others famous or rich, treated as all of us rich or poor, and maybe, just maybe, things will change. but we have to petition the government and make our case. it wont be easy but we CAN do it.
