He might have been a little too old when you brought him and he is stuck in his ways. He is afraid of you. Perhaps, if you are gentle he will eventually warm up to you, but be VERY GENTLE and speak softly!

It often takes up to a year to get an iguana socialized properly. For many months an iguana will play the scared role because you look like a predator to it. They can't get it in their small brains that your good. Instinct tells them to run from what's bigger than them. It's a hazard of being the bottom of the food chain.

Keep talking to your ig even when you're not holding it. Offer it treats by hand such as a favorite fruit. Every day hold it no less than 20 mins...the longer the better. Have sessions in the bathroom where you just sit and let it crawl around. Make sure there are no holes under the baseboard of the sink. Many have nothing there. There are some links below to help choose the best method of socializing your ig.

Its like that with any animal, Iguanas are naturally wild so they initially think your trying to get it and harm it, it just has to come accustom to you. Try setting the Iguana down somewhere he cant get away like a room with all the doors shut then lay down to it eye level and look at it and slowly pet it and it will warm up to you and know your not trying to harm it.

try handling him in a morning before hes had chance to warm up as they only become really active when they are warm its like charging a battery the more you charge it the more energy it will have lol if you do manage to hold him stroke him lightly like you would with a cat or dog they really enjoy it
