I want to learn classical style piano pieces. I don't know any names of them though. I want to learn the legato smooth type that are kinda sad yet beautiful at the same time. The kind that you would find being played in the introduction of some old movie.

If you have seen the movie "The Others" the kind of song that is being played in the scene where Grace (Nicole Kidman) goes downstairs to the music room and hears the piano being played and when she opens the door it stops and then she locks the piano cover and the the door gets slammed on her and she walks in again to find the piano keys cover open again after she locked it.

So basically something nice and smooth and moderate tempo and romantic yet fancy at the same time. Kinda like the middle part of Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin. Any suggestions would do.

Don't worry about giving me to advanced songs, I may only be 15, but im pretty advanced. I can play the full version of Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata, the FUneral march, and fantasie impromptu. Might take me a while to learn some, but I will get there. I like a challenge!

I don't know exactly which piece you're talking about but have you tried Chopin's Preludes, from what you describe you may like Prelude no. 4 in e minor and no. 20 in c minor. Or what about some Beethoven. You may like the slow middle movement of the Pathetique Sonata, I think it's Op. 13 or the first Movement of the Moonlight Sonata also fits that description. Good Luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

If you prefer to stick with strictly classical, consider Chopin, Brahms, & Beethoven. (This is assuming you're at least at an early advanced level of playing.)
Some contemporary composers you might enjoy would include Kevin Olson, Timothy Brown, Kevin Costley and Melody Bober. They write all levels of pieces and are published through FJH music.
FJH also has a series of books titled "In Recital" that have both classical and contmporary music included. Some of the above composers' music appear in these books. They are available in many levels from Elemntary through Late Intermediate.
Try doing a few searches at www.fjhmusic.com
Good luck! Happy playing!

Hi

Try out these songs

Ballade Pour Adeline
Morning – Grieg
Danube waves, Blue Danube (will be easy for you since you can play fur elise and moonlight sonata)

Try to get an instrumental CD by Richard Clayderman on the classical pieces. You will find a lot of similar songs.

Chopin's Nocturnes are nice. After all, it's the type of piece you would play at night. Pieces that are found in the Romantic Period are normally "sad yet beautiful at the same time". Famous composers are Chopin (as mentioned), Liszt, Beethoven and so on.

Rachmaninoff's 18th Variation from Rapsody on a Theme of Paganini. This song is perfect. It's also in the movie "Somewhere in Time".
