~~~since my two children were little ,,, I always gave them an etch a sketch and a slinky (along with other gifts) for Christmas every year,,,like my own little tradition,,,, now my son is in his early twenties,,,, is it stupid or silly of me to still give him a Slinky (theres a $100.00 bill inside the slinky in the box. Or am I makeing a fool out of my self,,,?? I just want to keep some type of motherly tradition,,,,and I thought the Slinky with the $100.00 would be ok?
I think it is sentimental and precious. Even if it doesnt mean much to him, the slinky that is, deep down, it will mean something to you. People dont like to admit that, but when people give gifts, they always mean something for the giver too. Even if what the giver is getting is seeing a smile. So give yourself something, carry on the tradition. Who knows, he may pass it down to his kids too.
P.S. thank you for reminding me of the Jim Carry movie (Ace Ventura) when he set the slinky off down those huge stairs at the place where the monks (?) lived.
Also, a joke for you that I have always enjoyed:
Some people are like slinkies... not really good for anything, but sure fun to watch falling down the stairs!
(I disagree though, slinkys are fun and you just made me want to go out and buy one... It has been ages so it'll make me feel like a kid again!)
It's the thought that counts. Other people may think it is silly. I say go ahead and do the slinky with the 100.00 in it. And them maybe when your son or daughter have their children then that willgive them an idea that they should go on with the family tradition.
don't you think 20 slinkies is enough by now?
I guess if you put a cheap one in his stocking it might be funny.
just don't expect him to actually enjoy a slinky.
