In a twisted way, it represents the breakdown of a woman's dependence on her husband. But 99 times out of 100, divorce happens for a better reason than a search for independence. (Not that female independence is a bad thing — in fact, I think the best way to maintain it is to avoid marriage completely.)

Divorce is a social down fall.To many times couples get a divorce causing families to be broken,children to be misplaced and lively hood of families to be destroyed.Children of divorce seem to have so many conflicting ideas about how the family structure should be.Not having the proper guidance of family structure tends to cause all kinds of bad social problems.

it's BOTH social progression and regression
progress because women are more independent and it's better for kids to have divorced parents than a fighting family. also it can lead to personal happiness. regression because people are too stupid to pick a good spouse and stick with them and divorce can be bad.
