Obviously you wouldn't normally know...we aren't talking like the movie "The Jerk." I was struck by a previous question about this.

I'm not sure if your question is serious or not, but i would start telling them at a early age (4 or 5 ) that they had a different 'belly mom', cause rest assured, if you live in a residential area the minute they hit school some little craphead who overheard his mommy talking, will gladly inform the kid that he's adopted. (kids CAN be cruel). If they know early on , it's not such a big deal as they come to understand the circumstances later on in life.

I would tell them from the very begining. I would tell them that I am his/her mother and that I love them very much, but I didn't give birth to them. If you wait until they are a teen, then it would be too much of a shock. Plus, when your young you want to know all about your mother and father, they should know that you are their parents, just not their biologicle parents. Keeping it from them for so long is like lying to them.
An open adoption is best, that way the real mother is still in the picture.

I am adopted and my parents told me when I was so young that I cannot even remember. They answered questions anytime that I had one. The always let me know that I was wanted "by them" and made me feel extra special because I was "chosen". Please do not wait until the child is older because that would be a real shock to someone who was 12, 14, or 16.

If you have an open adoption it's easier for them. The birth mother is in the picture and the child is brought up knowing from the start that he/she is adopted but was loved enough by his birth mother that she pick you to raise her child.

I would adopted kids above the age of 14 just because everyone goes for the babies...The older kids need a shot at a good life too.

That depends on a lot of things. Prolly when they were old enough to understand the concept of the whole thing.

I would let him/her know as early as possible. They were especially chosen. Then they could grow up knowing how fortunate they are to have been taken into a loving home, and I would let them know how fortunate I was to have taken such a special person into my home.
