there are some exercises (hard to explain here though ) but look at the way you migh want to play a prticular chord - ie i was taught (from a book ) a way of playng 'D' but my way siuted me better making it easier to go to 'A' etc ,also barre chords ,. However get a song that you like ( i started with sweet jane by the velvet underground ) and get the chords from the web or a book and get the tune in your head look at the chords you have and play slowly (get a rhythm with your strumming hand ) look at the frets , place your fingers close to the fret to stop the 'buzz' ......... and you must ENJOY i wish i could talk to you or show you as i have shown a few people how to play - and i am self taught ( apart from the lou reed book - i just wanted to see the chords ) well have fun - good luck . ps i think olga .com will be back up soon .

Buy a book called 101 hits for buskers, it will have the lyrics and chord structures telling you which fingers to put on which fret and you will recognise the songs too. Find a song with only a few chords and teach yourself it. Dont expect miracles overnight. Once that song is taught move on to another with a few more cords and eventually you will be playing a lot of chord structures and as your confidence builds so will your repatoire of songs. Give it about 2 months and re-evaluate the system. It certainly worked for me, good luck

practice...
i played that guitar every night
my fingers bled 'till i got it right.
#1 daughter plays, and on average its around 3 hours a day... you gotta practice hard if you ever want to play...
so apart from dedication, perseverance and determination, not to mention aptitude and attitude...and sheer bloody mindedness..often to the exclusion of all others. and you can bear the slings and arrows of and intolerant tone deaf critics.. then, one day, youll be able to play...maybe not well, maybe not perfect..but you will play... and hopwefully someone will drop 50p into your hat just after theyve bought the big issue off your mate!
im joking. i play blues harp, #2 daughter plays piano and teh wife is also a competent musician... go for it. status quo got away with three chords... and however you play..enjoy it.
