We know that #1 is Beth and #5 is Peter
Ernesto can't be #3 because that will put Jeff @ #5 which is Peter's position => Ernesto must be @ #2.
Jeff was 2 places behind Ernesto => Jeff is #4
The only position available for Leah is #3

1. Beth
2. Ernesto
3. Leah
4. Jeff
5. Peter

Read the question carefully. It just says Leah is ahead of Peter. Peter is fifth because it says Peter is in fifth. Ernesto is second because thats the only way Jeff could be two places behind him.

Beth
Ernesto
Leah
Jeff
Peter

I don't know for sure, At first i thought Leah had to be directly in front of Peter. But if she was Jeff couldn't be 2 places behind Ernesto. So my guess is Leah

Nooo.... it says that Leah is ahead of Peter, but it doesn't say how far ahead.
1. Beth
2. Ernesto
3 Leah
4 Jeff
5 Peter
Because Jeff must be TWO places behind Ernesto (not directly behind)

no it's beth, ernesto, leah, jeff and peter.

it never said leah was directly ahead of him, but it did say jeff was two places behind ernesto.

We used to do these in the fifth grade room I worked in last year--it's supposed to help w/listening skills. (Frankly, gives me a headache!) This may sound silly, but it really does work.

Take a postie notefor each person, plus a couple of extras for "place holders. Then start mapping out the problem in front of you. Beth is first, then leave room putting Peter in position five. Where does everyone else go? Keep rereading it, crossing out the info as you use it. It's just a process of elimination.

The answer is Leah
it goes
Beth
Ernesto
Leah
Jeff
Peter

Leah doesnt have to be right above Peter it just says she is above and her being third makes her above Peter
