Not much. Anyone can create their own religion; that does not make it truth. L. Ron Hubbard created Scientology. He was a science fiction writer with very close ties to Aleister Crowley (a prominent satanist). He claimed that evil exists on the Earth because long ago, we were invaded by evil aliens. Apparently, his penchant for science fiction also influenced his formulation of the tenets of his religion. Scientology has gained attention and some undue respect because its membership includes some famous members, such as Tom Cruise. What Scientologists will not trumpet is 1: that their membership also included several Manson "family" members and other such individuals and 2: its bizarre and baseless credo.

What I find most confusing is that so many people follow it with the knowledge that it was founded by a well-established science fiction author. How do they interpret what he has to say as truth and not mere fabrication? Other spiritual texts are open for debate since no one knows what ELSE their authors may have written, but following a religion made by someone who exploits writing fantasy for financial gain just sounds naive.
(Sorry if any scientologist reading takes this offensively, but that's just how it looks to me.)

I think Scientology is a bunch of greedy frauds preying on the easily led. They create new levels to reach to keep the $$$ coming in and making sure no one ever reaches the final level whatever it is.

I'm sure they disagree with it because of how dangerous it is. That's certainly one of the major contributing factors in my opposition to the organization (and in all honesty, it's a cult). Please consider the following:
• Operation Freakout - Their campaign of sabotage and violence against Paulette Cooper, the writer who published her research and findings on several cults, including Scientology:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Krasel/cooper/frk.html
• Fair Game - the Scientology policy detailing how the organization may confront and handle critics and perceived enemies. Here is a direct quote: "Enemies may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”
http://www.xenu.net/archive/disk/fairgame.htm
• Violent Kidnapping - Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist, was involved in a car accident and resultantly became mentally unstable, was kidnapped by agents of Scientology, held against her will, refused proper psychiatric treatment and was allowed to STARVE TO DEATH.

• Jeremy Perkins - A CBS “48 Hours” special on the mentally disturbed son of Scientologist parents who refused to put him on the anti-psychotic drugs that would have stabilized him & prevented him from killing his own mother.

it's a cult ... a so-called "religion" made by a science fiction author, who bet his friend he could create a religion and that people would be dumb enough to follow it
the aim is taking people's money
they have also killed people who tried to leave them or blow the whistle on them. i'd avoid them at all costs, it could cost your life savings and then your life. they also give totally ridiculous health advice, which is why tom cruise thinks vitamins can cure depression and jennifer lopez thought a different diet could get her pregnant.

I don't really know anything about it either, but if Tom Cruise has anything to do with it, I guess it makes you crazy and makes you do weird things.
I think it may even make you jump on couches!!
