First of all jeans from Hollister and American Eagle do not cost anywhere near $150. Jeans that cost in the price range around $150 are premium denim (ex. 7 for all Mankind, Rock and Republic, True Religion, Paige Premium Denim). And for "distressing" tips Google it.

I just wear them alot. I've had AE jeans that I love and when they started to rip I got so upset. But when they somehow got in style I felt like I was able to wear them. However if you don't have 2 years of waiting, I know some people who use sandpaper and rocks. Just rub sandpaper over the jeans (with a hard surface under the jeans) and keep rubbing until they start to wear. You can also use rocks with a jaged edge but be careful you don't hurt yourself.

How to Distress Jeans Without Using Sand Paper

If you can't afford several hundred dollars for designer distressed jeans, and you don't have all day to wear away the denim with sandpaper or worse, a nailfile, here's simple way to get that desirable distressed look with a (non-electric) razor.
Steps

1. Place a small block of wood (or anything similarly flat, solid, and sturdy) on the underneath side of the fabric where you want to create a distressed-looking area (e.g. put the wood inside the pantleg to work on the outside of the pantleg).
2. Use one hand to hold the jeans in place.
3. Shave in short, light strokes away from your hand across the area you want to distress, slowly wearing away the jeans. (It's almost like shaving yourself.)
4. Blow the lint out of the razor every few strokes so that it won't become clogged.
5. Move the block of wood to another area you want distressed and repeat steps 2 through 4.

Tips

* To distress only small patches, place a piece of folded-up paper (the size of the desired worn area) on top of the wood underneath the area you want to distress. Elevating this smaller area makes it easier to shave just that spot.

Warnings

* Shave away from the hand that's holding the jeans in place so that you don't cut yourself if your shaving hand slips.
* Check the surface of the jeans every few strokes of the razor to make sure you are not cutting holes through the fabric (unless you want holes).
* Do not wear the jeans while shaving them

take the jeans and throw them at hard people. lol just kidding. i love their jeans too and i have the same problem. Buy some nice faded jeans to start and wear them every night (wash them a lot). then slide all over carpets until it hurts (thats the best part). don't ever cut them with scissors, it will look un-natural and very intended. hope this works. have fun?? lol if you need any more help just ask. this should work. (i think)

If I remember correctly, my friend told me that to "distress" your jeans, you can place a wooden block inside the pant leg and then start to scrap the jean with a non-electirc razor so that it will look scraped and stuff. Be Careful and hope it helps.
