It is a high level computer programming language, similar in syntax to C/C++.

It was created by Sun Microsystems in the 90's, with the goal of being platform-independent. In many cases, you can run the exact same Java program on Mac, Linux, and Windows systems without any changes.

Not to be confused with JavaScript (which is for browsers).

Java is an object orientated programming language (high level) which was modeled after C++ but with some nice enhancements such as garbage collection (which frees up unused memory). java is also able to run on small amounts of memory which is cool. i be live it was developed by Sun Micro-systems, and was used to develop netscape navigator 2.0
