I have a condensing gas furnace that makes crackling noises after it shuts off. It also sounds like the sound of water dripping on the inside, down below, near the pump.. Can anyone tell me what is causing these sounds on my high efficiency furnace?

The metallic parts expanded when the fire was burning (or heating elements were hot) When you shut off the furnace it contracts again.

Depending on the sound and exactly where in the furnace it's coming from, it could also be a worn bearing in the squirrel-cage fan. When it's running, it spins okay. But when it shuts off, it slows down, then starts to wobble off-balance, and finally stops with a thud. -Just one possibility to check there.
