How hot can a pc get before its too hot. My computer on hot days gets around 62*C is this bad? How can I cool it it already has many fans in it and all they seem to do is make it louder as they spin faster and they have no effect on the computer, please help.

Thanks

What if I turn the fans off all together and let it get to about 82*C will this be alright?

When talking about computer's temperature, the greatest concern is the CPU's temperature. Other components on the motherboard can better tolerate heat than the CPU. The website Technibble has created a table with the maximum temperature for various CPU (http://www.technibble.com/what-is-my-computers-maximum-cpu-temperature/).

I try to keep my CPU's temperature below 60 Celsius but 62 Celsius is just fine. If you are concern about high temperatures, consider buying a can of compressed air and cleaning the grit and dust mites off the motherboard and surronding areas. You would be surprised at how easily dust and grit can drastically increase the temperature. Getting rid of the debris will probably lessen the sound generated by the fan. If that should fail, then you could purchase a better cooling unit. They are rather cheap but you would have to install it yourself, unless you are willing to spend $100 for a computer technician to do it for you.

Below is just a preview of technibble's table of cpu and their maximum temperature.

AMD Athlon (socket) upto 1Ghz 90°C
AMD Athlon (slot) all speeds 70°C
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.1Ghz+ 95°C
AMD Athlon MP 1.33Ghz+ 95°C
AMD Athlon XP 1.33Ghz+ 90°C
AMD Athlon XP T-Bred upto 2100+ 90°C
AMD Athlon XP T-Bred over 2100+ 85°C
AMD Athlon XP Barton 85°C
AMD Duron up to 1Ghz 90°C
AMD Duron 1Ghz+ 90°C
AMD Duron Applebred 85°C
AMD Opteron 65 - 71°C
AMD Athlon 64 70°C
AMD Athlon 64 (Socket 939, 1.4 volts) 65°C
AMD Athlon 64 FX 70°C
AMD Athlon 64 X2 71°C
AMD Sempron (T-bred/Barton core) 90°C
AMD Sempron (Paris core) 70°C
AMD Mobile Sempron 95°C

62 degrees Celsius is normal for an air cooled PC. My computer's temp. ranges from about 55 degrees up to 70 degrees. However, if you want to lower the temperature, you could replace the existing fans, with the more powerful and bigger fans (remember bigger fans are less nosy since larger fan blades can make a better air flow). If you're into overclocking, I recommend you to use liquid cooling systems as today's components could easily overheat when overclocked.

62°C is not bad for a CPU temp on a hot day.

To answer the more general question, fans move air, but it has to flow past the heat sink to cool off the processor. Unplug all your cables, open your box, and look for dust. It collects on fans, in grilles, and in the heat sink. You can remove it by hand, with a very soft brush, or with "canned air", sold in computer departments and hobby shops. Do not use a vacuum cleaner, they produce static, and will damage your computer.

all for free.

My advise, I keep my towers up on the desk, so they get the same air that I breathe. Not so much dirt or dust, as on the floor.

Never confine the computer to a closed 'computer desk' shelf!

That little box helps destroy them, with heat!

Make sure there is also several inches of clearance in front, and behind, any fan grilles.

Best wishes!
