Hi HarCal4,

While MS-Word would let you set up page sizes, columns, etc. to do this... there is actually a more simple solution.

The printer driver(s) for your printer(s) may give you this capability. If not, you might even consider getting another printer. Perhaps even your current printer has an updated driver that you can download from their website.

For instance, if I was going to do what you suggest (1/4 page printing)... I would just type my document in MS-Word without even thinking about the print result. I would just get my document typed/editted/proofed and be ready to print.

Then in MS-Word, I would choose "File" > "Print..." (NOT click the print icon - which bypasses this necessary screen and prints immediately).
Then I would select my specific printer and click "Properties."
Now this is where our stories will differ -- as this brings up the print dialogue box for YOUR specific printer -- and this will be different if you get another printer. Mine happens to be for a Canon Pixma iP1500
From that dialogue box, I can click a "page setup" tab and under "printing type" choose "page layout printing" -- I can even say 2-page (1/2) 4-page (1/4) 6-page (1/6) 9-page (1/9) etc.

So the solution is:
1) see if your particular printer driver already has this (explore, as the wordings may differ)
2) consider if you want to buy a new printer ("if it's not broken, don't fix it")
3) ultimately, you could use MS-Word to accomplish your goal.

If you opt for #3, you would probably consider Portrait (default) printing, but set two columns and a page size of 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 (instead of 8 1/2 x 11).

Respectfully,
TimF
