Homophobia is still widespread in society. Some statistical data suggest that homophobes (people who hate gays) are psychologically sick. For example, when a homophobic muderer kills a gay person, the muder is usually committed in the most cruel and ruthless and barbarian way. The killer, for instance, usually stabs a gay person dozens of times instead of just one time. This shows that a homophobic criminal is somehow psychologically obsessed by the issue of homosexuaity. A nornmal person would not feel so passionately about who a total stranger sleeps with.
On the other hand, there are reasons to think that homophobes are not sick but simply immoral. Their hatred is based on immora impulses, although homophobes frequently justify their hatred with passages from the Bible, taken out of context.
So, which is it? Are they sick or just immoral?

The first example is good but a bit off. Anyone that would stab someone 12 times is obviously mentally disturbed in some way. whether the victim is gay or not.
To answer the question they are neither. Going to Catholic school my entire life and growing in a very religious household, homosexuality was a subject that wasn't touched on much. We were told it was wrong and that was it.
A homophobe is ignorant. I used to be a homophobe because I didn't have much contact with anyone from the gay community. After going to college I learned to look past the outside and see the person for who they are. I stopped seeing there sexual preference and saw who that person was inside, a human being just like everyone else. Now its no big deal, who you sleep with has nothing to do with me.

Sick or immoral. Why don't you start doing some research on pedophile priests. Because if people like yourself would put all there energy into the real sickos of the world and leave the gay peace loving people alone. This world would be a better place.

The right answer is neither!!
People didn't understand homosexuality (and still don't) for hundreds and thousands of years. If you were gonna operate on a person to remove a tumor, would you use information and tools from 10,000 years ago?? Of course not--same with the Bible--it's old information, out dated and wrong about homosexuality.
Now we know their preference in partners is as normal as anyone of us.
Are other animals who practice homosexuality sick and immoral?
Homosexual behavior has been found in ALL life forms on earth so if you really believe a one God that created everything, then you need to accept homosexuality as being a normal part of life that helps keep a species population down. (no reproduction)
Furthermore, killing is wrong no mater what.

I think a lot of them are closet homosexuals themselves. They may be brought up in such a way where they are taught about the "sin" of homosexuality, how it is damnable, disgusting, etc.
And then they see the gay stereotype as typified in the media, and propagated by some of the more "flamboyant" homosexuals out there.
So all homosexuals become evil and immasculine in their eyes. And because they are questioning their own identity, the homophobe feels his only recourse is to eliminate those who may potentially draw attention to him.
Then the victim becomes an outlet for the inward aggression that the homophobe is feeling for himself. And suddenly it becomes a crime of horrendous consequences.

In all reality ... both. Anyone hating an individual is sick ! To hate and justify it by using the Bible is plainly, self-righteous and smugness coming across as "Christian". A real, genuine Christian does not hate and trusts God to change people. Whatever, happened to "Love your neighbor, as yourself" ? !!!

People who are homophobic have been carefully taught by the church to hate us. That hate sometimes becomes so strong and pervassive that it leads to physical violence. There have been numerous times that a self-hating gay person has done an unspeakable deed. One can only hear that he is a sick pervert so long before blowing his gasket.
There are many people who have been taught to fear us, distrust us, and hate us, but who are still on the fence. These are the ones we can still sway with a little friendship and education.

Let me give you my perspective. Most people do not fear of hate homosexuality, so they are not homophobes. The believe that homosexual activity is wrong from a biblical perspective, and unnatural from a biological view. Homosexuality is wrong, just like stealing is wrong, and lying is wrong. None of us are perfect, so we are in no position to judge homosexuals.
What brings about the resentment toward homosexuals is their arrogant posturing about demanding their "rights". Being tolerant of someone Else's actions in the privacy of their own homes is a lot different than listening to individuals demands that we respect their lustful desires.
Homosexuality is been considered a perversion in almost every culture. Are we to believe that these cultures were controlled by people who were all mentally ill?
The hatred seems to be coming from homosexual organizations that are shaking their fists, invading churches and threatening anyone who dares to challenge them.

You see I can understand if someone disagrees with me and does not want to talk to me because I am different. But does that mean that they go around abusing me verbally, physically and psychologically. I mean I get it you hate me but is it ok for you to go about killing me? It is ok for you to impose your beliefs on me? Is it ok for you to go around an deprive me civil rights that I am entitled to as a Citizen of this country? I can see where their beliefs come from and I respect that, but don't try to impose your beliefs on me, thats all I ask.

no just ignorant, scared of the unknown, too ignorant to find out and cast their judgement before they find out. Most of the phobics wouldn't know the diff btw straight or gay tendancies etc. their just scared and ignorant and it shocks their system so they run away and hide behind the walls (and throw crap out etc) to mask their fears.
