In most Cities and town in this country Recycling is mandatory. However some towns and cities don't have a recycling center. The refuse collection in my town is not the responsibility of the town but by private businesses. The recycled material, consisting of paper, glass and plastic is also picked up by private contractors. Metal and forms of bulky waste is brought to a transfer station. Each transfer of any recycled material has an additional cost to the home owner, above the original cost of the garbage (refuse) pickup. The reason for this cost is because the town doesn't want to be in the garbage business. your town should have some one to contact that has knowledge pertaining to recycling .
