I have no idea what case you're talking about, but some disorders are dominant, so only one parent need pass on the gene for the disorder to appear.

You haven't showed us what you mean by the starred female.

Nonetheless, the daughter can show the effects of a genetic disease (without the mother being diseased) if she received a dominantly mutated gene from the father (who would have been dieased himself) or if she received two recessive mutations of the same gene - one from mother and father.
